Giving to others seems easy, right? You collect stuff, get donations and then just give it to people who need it. Done. Right?

Unfortunately, it’s really not that easy.

When you start an effort like The Monkey Do Project, there’s a lot of planning that goes into it. You call people who don’t return calls, You reach out and no hands reach back. People are skeptical. They don’t want to donate money, time or items if you’re just getting started. You know, too many scammers online today. But, when you’re really trying to help people, these roadblocks make you start doubting yourself.

Is this really what I’m supposed to be doing?

Is this really my calling?

What is it so hard to help people?

So, I’ve been sitting here, spinning; trying to figure out what to do next and questioning if The Monkey Do Project is really what I am supposed to be doing. (Or, was it just a dumb idea?!?)

And then today happened.

Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who is the fairest of them all? -Queen, Snow White

Sometimes I read other people’s blogs or Facebook status updates and feel like crap about myself. Does that ever happen to you? It sucks you in, takes hold and suddenly you feel very small … meaningless … like the things you are doing are so insignificant that it’s just a waste of your time. You might as well quit, right?

That happened to me today. I saw a Facebook status which led me to a blog of someone who was doing something really cool to help and share with others. Her post had hundreds of comments, not to mention a thousand or so combined Facebook and Twitter shares.

Wow.

Now that’s how you…
